Bolt adapter
A machined plate that bolts to a vehicle hub and presents a different bolt pattern (and often wider track) to the wheel.
A bolt adapter is a forged or billet alloy plate that bolts to your vehicle's hub on its inner face and presents a different bolt pattern (or a wider effective track) to the wheel on its outer face. They make wheels that wouldn't otherwise bolt up — for example, fitting 5×127 Jeep wheels on a 5×139.7 Toyota — actually possible.
The minimum bar for a safe adapter: - Forged or billet alloy — never cast or welded. - Hub-centric on both sides — the adapter must centre on your hub, and the wheel must centre on the adapter. - Correct torque spec — both inner studs (adapter to hub) and outer studs (wheel to adapter) torqued and re-torqued after 50 km. - Reputable brand — Spidertrax, TeraFlex, Gorilla, H&R, McGard. Not unbranded eBay stock.
FitsMyRig only surfaces adapters from these brands and never recommends cross-lug-count adapters (5-lug to 6-lug) without an explicit safety note. Adapters are a real, safe tool when chosen correctly — but cheap ones fail catastrophically and we won't link to them.
